It was one of those science fiction shows that I have watched for some time and have watched this series several times. I have had the VHS tapes of the series and I have given them away when I have bought the complete DVD set of both season one and two. It is called Space 1999.
I have enjoyed watching this series since it was science fiction, of course. I will always be attracted to the world of science fiction.
Space 1999 is the series about the Moonbase Alpha involved in storing nuclear waste products from Earth. The effects of the accumulated nuclear waste products have erupted into the nuclear disaster that has ripped the moon from its orbit around Earth.
The aftermath has wrought heavy toll on the Earth’s climate and environmental changes due to the sudden gravitational changes when the moon was pulled from its orbit.
Soon after; the people of Moonbase Alpha are recovering from their injuries and they are slowly repairing the damages to the buildings that survived the destructive affects of the nuclear waste products. So in turn; they managed to pick up the signal from another planet in hopes to to return home to Earth.
The first season is filled with the many adventures that the moon has traveled through deep space in search of resources and supplies to keep them alive as they traverse along the current of the cosmos. They have been involved in various alien visitations, strange anomalies, and unforeseen emergencies of survival.
Then, there is season two of Space 1999 with new adventures as the moon is still in search of a way back to Earth, which is their home. They are a long way from their home planet, Earth. With the first episode with the addition of Maya, who is the Psychon from the planet of the same name, Psychon. Maya has lived with her father who was an eccentric scientist. He has built and created a large device that acts like a controller for their home planet. Unbeknownst to his daughter, Maya. He has kept the secret of what really had happened. Maya’s father has drained unfortunate aliens of their intellects and have place their memories and thoughts into the controller device (Does this remind you of anything?). So the Moonbase Alpha people were in search for their missing away-team and they found them in the caves where they were kept as slaves devoid of emotions or higher brain functions. Then, they had confronted the eccentric Psychon scientist about what they have found. He has denied it, and Maya overheard the confrontation so she had to go see for herself what the Moonbase Alpha people have seen. She was shocked however, and returned to confront her own father. Everyone argued and fought it out even though the mad scientist had activated the device to full power which would cause the planet to explode. The Moonbase people were begged to take Maya with them, thought she was reluctant to leave her father. They rushed out of the building to their ships and lifted off to speed off towards the moon before the planet exploded. So Maya was welcomed into the Moonbase Alpha’s Human life as she will be traveling with them in search of the way back to planet Earth.
Of course, there are many adventures in the second season, some of episodes have featured Maya as the focal character as how she has dealt with the aliens or situations. One of them involved the alien race known as the Dorcas that sought after the Psychons in order to harvest their brain stems for youth. There was even a telepath Psychon criminal who wreak havoc on various alien species. As this second season progressed, I see that Maya is continuing to harness her molecular transformation ability and learning to fine-tune it. I imagine that it has taken great deal of training to utilize this ability. I have enjoyed this season more than I did with season one even though it was a good science fiction series.
I have wished that they would continue with a few more seasons and a finale that features a return to Earth. It was cut short due to various reasons, such as budgetary, lack of audience range, and advertisement. I still enjoyed watching this science fiction series despite their flaws.
So now to the main reason why I write about this science fiction series. It is about Maya, who is the female shape-shifter from planet Psychon. She is a unique female alien that I adore as a woman. I have not realized the real reason why I was drawn to her as a woman until recently when I have become attracted to several females. I have adored her as a woman because I have thought that I could relate to her since she is unique and that is an exotic alien. I had really thought that I could just fall in love with her. How could I deny myself the truth that I was attracted to her at a young age of 12 years. That was the time when I began to learn to write and she was the first character to write about.
Maya is played by the talented actress, Catherine Schell. She has played this role very well. I do wish to thank her for playing this role. I commend highly.
Anyway; I write not only about the series Space 1999, but also the character, Maya. I have been watching this series because it deals with space travel and aliens. I alos watch this series just to watch how Maya develop and grow into the person be with. She can be curious, wise, understanding, and has courage.
So that concludes this entry about Space 1999 and about Maya. I know that there cannot be a Space 1999 without Maya in the picture. That is why I write about the series first to give you an idea what this series about before I bring Maya into the picture. You know? Maya is a great example of how another woman can learn from her. 🙂
I will write again another entry when the time is right. 🙂
