I’m writing this blog in memory of the 2 people that Ken and I know and loved in our lives. That the day is August 3rd, 2013! It’s been 12 yrs, since Granddaddy passed on and it’s been 22 yrs since Ken’s Dad passed away. Well, there is the significance in certain times and dates so this is one of those strange coincidence of the 2 men in our lives who passed away.
I only met and seen Ken’s Dad once in my lifetime so that was the first and last time that I was able to see him. Dad is Ken’s mother’s second husband. Richard is a good Dad to all these kids and he does take care of the family. This step-father may have some colorful personality, but I am sure that he is a good man. So this Dad has a special place in Ken’s heart. He has held the family together through thick and thin. He is known to record the many VHS movies off the satellite movies channels to add to the library and to give to kid’s school or the nursing homes.
Well, Ken’s Dad died suddenly that night 22 yrs ago drowning in his own fluid build-up in his lung which was badly damaged by emphysema. He used to smoke for many years. Of course, Ken has to do CPR and the coroner had pronounced his Dad dead. He has died at home. But Ken’s Dad has left the memorable legacy in his wake. Ken will tell me a lot about this Dad and not much about the biological dead-beat father who had simply left the family.
So Ken’s Dad is one of the 2 men in our lives who treated the family right and made sure that everyone had food on the table.
And the other man in our lives is Granddaddy as some of you have read from the previous blogs. He still holds a special place in our hearts. He has held his family together as well despite the many circumstances surrounding the family. He is the jolly man who would laugh at the many jokes and he loves to tease the kids with the tall-tales and stories. I sure miss those….. Now, I’m hearing tall tales from the 2 men that I know now.
Granddaddy died suddenly from the congestive heart failure in the hospital’s ICU. The last time I’ve seen him alive was that he was in one of the semi-private hospital room the night of August 2nd 2007. He was just as feisty as ever. He had argued with a nurse over the insulin injections. He has been refusing for many years to take insulin shots because he was afraid of those needles. He has finally relented and he had resigned himself to that last and only insulin shot… The next morning… he plunged into unconsciousness and later died.
Anyway; these are the 2 men in our lives. Their names are;
Richard (Dick) Lorn Catchall and Aritus (Bing George) Clearance Cole
Richard passed away on August 3rd 1992
Aritus passed away on August 3rd 2001
They both have lived a long and full lives. They have lived through many circumstances in their lives. So I’m writing this in memory of those 2 men of our lives.
